Construction is well underway on a 50,000-square-foot freezer storage facility at Mar-Jac Poultry in Jasper.

Construction has progressed rapidly since the end of May on a new facility at Mar-Jac Poultry in Jasper.

A massive, steel structure has been erected on what was flat ground just three months ago. A large construction crane has been in the area recently to place large steel beams to shape the building.

The Daily Mountain Eagle announced in May that a 50,000-square-foot facility is being built at the site for freezer storage.

Harry Niser of RACO General Contractors told the Eagle, "We're giving them a -40 degree freezer and also a -10 degree freezer. After the chickens are brought in and they're processed, they do freeze their product. Then they sell it to people that purchase — distributors, what have you."

The expansion is said to help Mar-Jac in Jasper manage more product at the already-bustling facility.

The facility will reportedly be automated, with robots doing some of the work in the frigid environment.

Construction of the new building is expected to be finished sometime in 2024.

Mar-Jac is located along Third Avenue in Jasper and is one of the largest employers in the county.

"Their presence in Jasper will be long-term," Jasper Mayor David O'Mary told the Eagle in May.
