A metal structure recently popped up on Overland Road and Goldking Way between Five Mile and Maple Grove in Boise. And readers have reached out to BoiseDev asking what it is.

Once complete, it will be a boat. Or at least look like one.

The structure is in the Goldking Plaza which is anchored by the existing Pad Thai House. The metal frame is part of a two-building project that will add 13 units for business and commercial tenants. The buildings will resemble a boat shape once they are finished.

The building is owned by Dr. Jude and Jenny Boutkaska, the couple who owns Pad Thai House. According to an application letter from the architect, Dr. Jude Boutkaska was a former medic in the United States Navy, which is why the structure will resemble a boat.

“The owner would like to develop a more welcoming building, charming place for the public through the architectural design,” the application letter said.

The application states the exterior coloring would match the Pad Thai House. There will be sidewalks added to the front of the two buildings as well.

“Exterior walls to be complete with the stucco walls to match Pad Thai House with peach color,” the application letter said. “Upper main center of the building and upper end-wing wall at front and rear end wing walls, to be completed with aluminum extruded wood-grain panels.”

The project has already received approvals from the City of Boise.
