New York-based architecture practice SO-IL collaborates with Tankhouse and together design 9 Chapel, a residential, 14-story building, wrapped in wavy, perforated metal skin in downtown Brooklyn in the Dumbo neighborhood.

As it is visible from SO-IL’s renderings, the development will be made of slender, interconnected volumes paired with large picture windows and multiple outdoor patios.

The building will consist of 27 one to four-bedroom residences that will “present an exceptional and vibrant approach to 21st-century living in New York,” as stated by SO-IL’s co-founder Florian Idenburg.

The entrance of the building will be a few meters under the ground, pushed down from the street so that the ground-level volume cantilevers over the small entrance plaza.

The architects have designed floor-to-ceiling windows to allow natural light to flood the residencies and follow an open-concept living space that opens directly onto the surrounding terraces through large glass doors.

All kitchens will be equipped with a large wooden kitchen island.

9 Chapel will also comprise amenities such as a shared lounge, a “state-of-the-art” fitness studio, and bike storage.
